MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, 2003

MOSAIC Members from all over the US and Canada ventured south (or North as was the case for Gary V. from Atlanta) to the Shawnee National Forest near the southern tip of Illinois.  The group of about 24 stayed at a camp known as "Touch of Nature Education Center" (TONEC), operated by Southern Illinois University.  Most stayed in cabins, although a few enjoyed the solitude of Little Grassy Lake....

We hiked Giant City State Park, Little Grand Canyon National Recreation Area; paddled the Cache River Swamp (the northernmost cyprus swamp in the country); biked; and went horseback riding.  An added bonus was visiting the beautiful waterfall at Ferne Clyffe State Park!
